Building
Codes, Specifications and Manuals The
Jordan National Building Codes
were issued to establish design principles and minimum requirements
needed to ensure public safety of structures, provide sound and
efficient electro-mechanical services and upgrade the standard of
engineering services in the building industry. Arab
Unified Codes are prepared to unify
building code provisions throughout the Arab world. General
Technical Specifications for Buildings
were issued to establish the principles of engineering standards,
quality control and methods of construction with regards to buildings
as per architectural, structural and electro-mechanical aspects. The
Architectural Climatic Design Manual.
This manual presents the principles of climatic architectural design
of houses in Jordan to minimize energy consumption in buildings and
provide thermal comfort to residents. Manuals of electrical
installation, central heating and concrete codes were also issued. Builder/Owner’s
Manual. 5 manuals were prepared covering
the various phases that the Builder/Owner passes through planning and
building his or her own house. Manual
of Thermal Insulating Materials for Buildings.
The manual was prepared in-conjunction with the General Organization
for Housing, Building and Planning Research and the Academy of Science
and Technology of Egypt, Egypt. Building
System Development
Development
of Building System No. (5).
A semi-industrialized building system based on precast units. It was
developed as an alternative to the conventional systems to minimize
the cost of skeleton works in building construction. Applied
Research Projects
Evaluation
of Earthquake Hazards Methods of Mitigating Their Environmental Impact.
A project that aims at producing new seismic zoning maps and design
totals to reduce damage caused by future earthquakes. Extending
the Lifespan of Industrial Structures.
The main objective is to study the effectiveness of selected corrosion
control methods and repair materials. The study focuses on improving
concrete durability of industrial structures exposed to severe
environmental conditions. Research
and Development of Existing and Historical Water Harvesting Systems.
A total area of 11210 km2 of the northern-eastern Badia is
included in this study. It aims at studying recent and historical
water systems. The outcome will develop the Badia environment through
the provision of water thus improving standard of its inhabitants. Acquisition
of Hydrological and Meteorological Data:
The objective is to record and collect hydrological and meteorological
data for the Badia region that may be utilized in modeling the surface
hydrology of the region. The findings can be generalized on basins of
similar characteristics and may be used for the siting of water
harvesting system. Use
of Phospho-gypsum for the Production of Pozzolanic Gypsum Cement.
This experimental research project aimed at studying the potential of
recycling phospho-gypsum produced as an industrial waste at the
fertilizer complex in Aqaba. Evaluation
of the Potential Alkali-Reactivity of the Jordanian Wadi Gravel Employed
as Concrete Aggregate. This
project was funded by the Ministry of Public Works and Housing,
the Jordan Cement Factories Co., the Engineering Association and RSS. Effect
of the Addition of Limestone to Clinker on the Compressive of Ordinary and
Pozzolanic Portland Cements.
Comparison between
ordinary portland cement and pozzolana portland cement. These two
studies were conducted for the benefit of the Jordan Cement Factories
Co. Evaluating
Clays in Jordan for the Production of Clay Bricks.
This research project was carried out in conjunction with the Building
Research Centre of the Scientific Research Council in Iraq. Building
on Clay Soil Jordan. A research study performed
on building foundations on Jordanian expansive clay. The
Employment of Lime in Cement-Sand Plastering. Production
of Thermal Insulation Materials Using Local Raw Materials. Development
of Hot Asphalt Mixtures Design. Development
of Suitable Mortars for Restoration Works in Petra. Preservation
of Cultural Heritage and Land Development Salt:
A Plan for Action. An implementation plan was prepared to preserve
and revitalize the old centre of Salt in order to stimulate economic
activities and maintain the historical character of the city. The
Usage of Pozzolana in Preparing a Mortar for the Restoration of the Retaining
Wall in Wadi-El Mudhlim in Petra. This
study was funded by the Higher Council for Science and Technology /
Jordan. Development
Plan for the Jordan Phosphate Mines Company Lease Area in Russeifa.
A skeletal plan is proposed for implementation in three consecutive
phases taking into consideration social, environmental, geological and
urban problems. It provides solutions for the present mixed land-use
in the area, residential problems and lack of green areas, with a view
to upgrade the standard of the area socially, economically,
structurally and environmentally. The
Handbook of Architectural Heritage in Jordan
aims at documenting the buildings of architectural value
through complete architectural drawings. Volume I covering the city of
Salt was issued. Consulting
and Technical Services
Evaluation
of existing structures and determination of means for their strengthening,
repair and maintenance,
taking into consideration the safety factors, durability aspects and
the surrounding environment. Seismic
Repair and Retrofitting of Existing Structures,
such as Aqaba Observation Tower, and some primary structures at the
Industrial Fertilizer Complex in Aqaba. The main objective is to
determine the type and extent of damage to structures through
condition surveying, testing, and structural analysis. Based on the
findings, the most appropriate repair/or retrofitting option can be
introduced. Industrial
and Housing Estates Projects, involving
preparation of various project documents and coordination among the
multi-disciplinary design group. Examples of these projects include:
Extension of Al-Hassan Industrial Estate, Queen Alia International
Airport , Maa’n Industrial Estate, and Jordan Phosphate Mines
Company Housing Project at Maa’n. Quality
Control of Building Materials and Products.
A project that aims at ensuring that building materials and products
satisfy the relevant Jordanian standards. Development
of Concrete Pipe Industry in Jordan. Development
of Window Performance in
Buildings.
