What does "conformity assessment" mean?

The ISO/IEC Guide 2:1996 definition of conformity assessment is "conformity assessment" means checking that products, materials, services, systems or people measure up to the specifications of a relevant standard . For example, a customer may want to check that the product he or she ordered from a supplier meets the purpose for which it is required. One of the most efficient ways to do this is when the specifications of the product have been defined in an International Standard. That way, both supplier and customer are on the same wavelength, even if they are based in different countries, because they are both using the same references.

  Why is Conformity Assessment Important?

The main areas of concern are user and product safety, consumer health and the environment.

Conformity assessment is important to suppliers, consumers, and regulators. It enables producers to demonstrate that their product(s) meet relevant design and safety standards and gives consumers confidence when selecting products in the marketplace. . The conformity assessment process used to provide this confidence must be as cost effective as possible to maximize its value for both the supplier and the consumer.

What does CE marking mean? What do the initials CE stand for?

CE Marking is the symbol as shown on the figure. The letters "CE" are the abbreviation of French phrase "Conformite Europeene" which literaturely means "European Conformity".

CE marking is a declaration by the manufacturer that the product meets all the appropriate provisions of the relevant legislation implementing certain European Directives. CE marking gives companies easier access into the European market to sell their products without adaptation or rechecking and ensures the free movement of the product within the European Union (EU) .

What are the benefits of ESCAD ?

Conformity assessment provides benefits for manufacturers and service providers, consumers and government regulators, as well as for international trade in general.

For conscientious manufacturers and service providers, having their products assessed and certified as conforming to a particular standard allows them to distinguish themselves from less reputable suppliers.

Consumers benefit from conformity assessment because it provides them with a basis for selecting products or services. They may have more confidence in products or services that bear a mark or certificate of conformity that attests to quality, safety or other desirable characteristics.

Regulators benefit from conformity assessment which gives them a means of enforcing governmental health, safety and environmental legislation.
