E-Commerce in Jordan Project

This project is funded by the Higher Council of Science and Technology and has the following objectives:

  • Study the readiness of applying e-Commerce in Jordan according to the infrastructure available and from a legal perspective.

  • Develop an electronic Web Site including an awareness course (e-consulting), which is supposed to give information about the following:

    • Defining to the following: E-Commerce, B2C, B2B, G2B, G2C

    • Giving Examples to the parties involved in E-Commerce Locally and Globally

    • Exploring the Technology used in applying E-Commerce

    • Introducing Payment procedures

    • Defining Jordan E-Commerce readiness from the Infrastructure point of view

(2) Environmental Management with SMITE

The Royal Scientific Society (RSS) and the Higher Council of Science and Technology are jointly representing Jordan in SMITE, an EUMEDIS project funded by the European Union. The Project started on the 1st of May 2002 with the participation of several countries including Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia, Malta, Cyprus, Greece, Germany, Denmark, Palestine, Turkey, and Jordan. This project addresses the particular needs of SMEs in the field of environmental management. The scope of the project is the development of a Mediterranean network of SMEs, active in the field of Environmental Management.

A web-based informational node for the food, textile and hotel sectors will be created, to assist interested firms improve their environmental performance.An interactive, multimedia and multilingual informational system via the Internet will provide SMEs with up-to-date tools and access to environmental information customized for their specific needs.
 

SMITE provides the means for on-line Environmental Management
  • Assess the legislative and technological performance
  • Benchmark the environmental performance
  • Introduce new technologies and implement technical interventions
  • Adopt “good practice” guidelines for improving environmental performance
  • Estimate the potential cost or benefit of the suggested interventions
For each environmental performance issue, the tool will help you:
  • Calculate the volume of key resources you are currently consuming
  • Compare your resource consumption with that of similar businesses worldwide
  • Implement programs to reduce resource consumption
  • Calculate the financial and resources savings you could make by improving environmental performance.

UNL Universal Networking Language Project
The UNL project aims at eliminating language barriers. The initial phase of the project involved developing modules to deconvert text from UNL to (16) different languages and to enconvert from those languages to UNL. These languages are: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, English, Spanish, German, Hindi, Italian, Indonesian, Japanese, Latvian, Portuguese, Mongolian, Swahili and Thai. The next phase of the project will extend to include other international languages.
The UNL project was launched in April 1996 by the United Nations University Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU/IAS). The Royal Scientific Society of Jordan developed the Arabic Module.

CJIS Cultural Journey in the Information Society
The overall objective of CJIS project is to set up a framework to build distributed interactive multimedia networks over the Internet and World Wide Web that would act as Electronic Roads for cultural and historical exploration in (5) Euro-Med countries (Jordan, Egypt, Cyprus, Greece and Spain) with particular emphasis on the cross national links of these Electronic Roads.
CJIS project was launched in December 1998 and will continue for (3) years with funding from the EU within the INCO-DC programme. The participating institutions are:

THEME Textile Application of High Performance Computing in the  Middle East.
THEME project aims at increasing the uptake of High Performance Computing (HPC) based quality control within the textile industry in the Middle East. It will perform HPC application development and technology transfer for the textile industry in Jordan and Egypt. It was launched in December 1998 and will continue for (30) months with EU funding within INCO - DC programme. The participating institutions are:

MEDISAT Project
The MEDISAT project, which is an acronym for “MEDI terranean Science and Technology Information Network” under the INCO-DC programme of the European Community.   The MEDISAT project was launched in December 1998 with the participation of several institutions in Europe and in the Mediterranean region, including the RSS.
The main objective of the project is to strengthen the research and technological development in Europe and the Mediterranean region and hence competitiveness and integration a free access to information sources and close cooperation in science and technology.
