Goals of the Project
v Developing
appropriate policy for the wastewater management in rural communities in Jordan.
v Strengthening
effective wastewater management, treatment and recovery, to develop new water resources
for agricultural purposes.
v Building
Badia Community’s capacity, conducting applied research as well as producing
a new knowledge in the field of
Wastewater Treatment.
v Promoting the
community involvement in the issues that concern wastewater treatment and reuse; and promoting the
involvement of local governmental authorities, regional institutions and policy
makers in the appropriate and cost-effective community based wastewater
management schemes.
General Objectives
v To
improve water use efficiency and protect quality and quantity of scarce water
resources in rural communities of Jordan.
v To
ensure community involvement and motivate public participation in water
management issues.
Specific Objectives
In close collaboration with
members of all project area communities (men and women alike), the project aims
at:
v Developing
community-based know-how by facilitating dialogue over wastewater management
issues and by providing the opportunity of interaction of communities with
already existing relevant activities in Jordan.
v
Identifying the technical, political, social and
financial issues, problems and constraints currently facing wastewater
(blackwater and greywater) management in small communities.
v
Assessing impacts of current practices on the well being
of the communities and on the available water resources.
v
Working with the communities in identifying best
techniques, technologies and practices for wastewater treatment and reuse.
v
Testing and validating with the participation of
the communities a selected system that is user friendly, cost effective,
socially acceptable and technologically sound to ensure its sustainable
application.
v
Using continuous multi-stakeholder dialogue to
recommend policies and institutional frameworks for wastewater collection,
treatment and reuse programs and strategies in rural communities, and to define
the roles and responsibilities of all involved stakeholders.
v
Building the capacity of various involved
stakeholders on different aspects of wastewater treatment and reuse.
v
Disseminating the recommendations/ findings/
knowledge gained both nationally and regionally using a wide range of methods
designed to target different audiences.
