A workshop
about risk assessment of bio-solids used for agricultural
purposes was held at Royal Scientific Society (RSS) within the
period Dec. 13-15,2005. The mentioned workshop is as a
sub-activity of a project carried out by RSS and University of
Arizona(UoA) for three successive years.
Within the activities of
the workshop, researchers from University of Arizona presented
the experiment of Arizona state in reusing bio-solids after
treatment for planting some crops such as cotton , barley and
others. Many representatives from governmental and
none-governmental institutions and universities participated
in the workshop in addition to representatives of international
donor institutions.
A scientific seminar was
also held for successive two days after the end of workshop to
discuss modifying the Jordanian standard for bio-solids reuse
in agriculture (No. 1145/1996) , many institutions participated
in the process including Jordan Institution for Standards and
Metrology (JISM), Ministry of Water and Irrigation(MWI) and
Ministry of Environment in addition to some governmental
universities.
It worth to mention that
such workshop comes within the cooperation process between RSS
and Badia Research and Development Center (BRDC) / Higher
Council for Science and Technology in carrying out many
specialized research funded by United States Agency for
International Development (USAID) by an agreement with the
International Arid Land Consortium (IALC) / University of
Arizona
