ERC has recorded many outstanding achievements since the year it was established, the most recent achievements of ERC can be summarized as follows:

Cleaner Production:

Cleaner production aims at increasing the eco-efficiency of enterprises. ERC has a very well developed experience in this field; it is at present executing a major Cleaner Production project in Jordan. Industries are trained and coached to implement CP at their facilities to reduce waste, utilize natural resources at the optimum level and to introduce better ways of processing and doing their work.

Biosolids Quality Assessment and Reuse:

Biosolids, the by-product (sludge) from the wastewater treatment plants, is a major issue, as huge quantities are accumulated every year at the wastewater treatment facilities. ERC in cooperation with a US institution, University of Arizona, has investigated the quality of biosolids in major treatment plants and is currently studying its reuse potentials. Care is given to safeguard the farmer and the consumer from any risk, a guide for biosolids reuse is also being prepared .

Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001):

ERC has provided technical consultation for developing and implementing EMS in compliance with the requirements of ISO 14001 in addition to a pre-certification EMS audit. Measurements are also carried out upon customer request for compliance with environmental standards and requirements. Services were provided to the following companies:

• Petra Engineering Industries Company.
• Jordan Cement Factories.
• HOPPECKE Batteries Plant.
• Arab Lime and Buildings Material Industries Company.
• Middle East Can Company.
• Jordan Arab Fertilizers and Chemical Company.

Currently ERC is also serving Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company in preparing their laboratories for the ISO 17025 accreditation.

Hazardous Substances Management:

ERC has vast experience in the management of hazardous substances, it has well equipped laboratories to analyze the hazardous materials as well as in providing consultations in managing hazardous materials. ERC is undertaking a national project for the information management and control of hazardous substances with the support of Swiss organizations. It has also prepared a guide for the management of hazardous substances at small and medium enterprises.

EIA for Gas transmission project and monitoring the implementation of the Environmental management plan:

Jordanian Egyptian Fajr for Gas Transmission and Supply Company planned to construct a receiving station in the Gulf of Aqaba and to install a gas pipeline to transport the Egyptian natural gas from the south (Aqaba) to the north (Rehab). Also, the gas pipeline will supply a natural gas to the intermediate power generating stations in Zarqa and Rehab. The potential environmental impacts from the activities of the project have been assessed in order to identify and prepare the mitigation measures to avoid or minimize the negative impacts and enhance the positive ones. In addition, comprehensive impact management plan has been prepared. The public consultation was carried out through a series of meetings and workshops along the pipeline route to ensure wide and adequate coverage of issues from all stakeholders.
