For more than two decades, the Biomedical Division has accumulated substantive expertise in the field of maintenance and repair of medical equipment, and in the process has developed qualified manpower capable of providing much-needed training programmes for the local and regional health sectors.

The programmes began with training of operators and first-line maintenance for technicians, to reduce downtime of equipment caused by improper operation or simple faults.

At a later stage, ESTC started offering competence training for medical engineers, to assist the Jordanian health care sector to maintain its leading position in the Arab region, and to endorse Jordan's tradition of providing highly qualified human resources to Arab countries.

During the years 1996-2002, ESTC, in cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), offered a training course in maintenance of medical equipment to engineers from the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

The programme is expected to run to 2003.

The course aims at giving the participants the requisite skills in the following fields:

Repair and maintenance of advanced medical equipment.
Testing and safety check of medical equipment.
Implementation of daily maintenance routines.
Periodic preventive maintenance.
