A training
course in the field of testing and calibration of electrical appliances
and measuring equipment opened at RSS on June 22, 2005. The course is
held to train a number of Palestinian engineers who work at the
Palestinian Standards Institution in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
The course, organized by RSS Electronic Services and Training Centre
(ESTC) in cooperation with Japan International Cooperation Agency
(JICA), aims at upgrading the trainees’ capabilities in the field of
testing and calibration of electrical appliances and measuring
equipment. The training programme will be conducted according to the
requirements of the international standards of the testing and
calibration laboratories. This will improve the specifications of the
local Palestinian product manufacturing, control the equipment quality
and contribute to eliminating the technical obstacles related to
importing and exporting of equipment and customer protection.
Participants in the course, to last for two months, will receive
theoretical and practical training at the ESTC supervised by a technical
team experienced in the testing of electrical appliances and calibration
of measuring equipment. The participants will also be introduced to
various testing and measurement equipment, and required to perform
testing of electrical appliances and calibration of various electrical
and physical measurement equipment.
This course, conducted for the second time at RSS, falls within the
framework of a Jordanian-Japanese- Palestinian training programme. It is
noteworthy that ESTC has been accredited by JICA to carry out this
programme owing to its distinguished experience and skills in the
various areas of electrical and electronic fields.
In an opening address, RSS President Prof. Dr. Sa’ad Hijazi said that
this course is important as it contributes to promoting the capabilities
of Palestinian engineers. He also paid tribute to the Japanese
government, represented by JICA for supporting the third country
training programme which played a key role in the transfer of needed
technology.
On his part, Mr. Naoyuki Ochiai, Deputy Resident Representative of JICA
Jordan Office, said," in Palestine, JICA has given priorities of
technical assistance to, firstly, improvement of basic human needs such
as water supply, primary health, secondly, promotion of industry,
thirdly, support to good-governance." He added that JICA Jordan Office
has been conducting a variety of training courses with Jordanian
partners to promote regional cooperation among Arab countries." He noted
that all the participants are expected to contribute in the human
resource development of testing and calibration fields and to solve
relevant problems in Palestine.
