RSS Signs Two Memorandums of Cooperation with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung

 

 

  

RSS signed on March 20, 2005 two Memorandums of Cooperation with Fiedrich-Ebert-Stiftung-Jordan aiming at encouraging European investments in Jordan.

Under the firtst memorandum, RSS industrial studies division will carry out a study on the means to encourage European investments in Jordan. This study will highlight the reasons preventing the flow of European investment into Jordan, and will suggest means to encourage European investment in Jordan.

The study will also investigate the current European investments in Jordan, specially the motives for these investments to come into Jordan. It will analyze the current Jordanian investment promotion laws, regulations, and institutional setup, with a focus on the new proposed QIZ’s with the EU and study the suggested critiria of these QIZ’s. The study will identify the major characteristics of the Jordanian economy, and its main socio-economic challenges and specify the main available investment opportunities in Jordan.

This study aims at analyzing the socio-economic impact of such investments with a special attention to the impact on the labour issues such as: unemployment, social security, Trade Unions, and females workers. It will analyze the environmental implications of the EU investments in Jordan and the environmental standards in Jordan in order to find it was a major factor in the decisions of EU campanies to invest in Jordan.

According to the second memorandum, RSS industrial studies division will carry out a study on the impacts of privatizaton on the employment in Jordan. The study will discuss the effects of privatization on the employment as well as problems either institutional or organizational that stand obstacles of utilizing labour force in the privatezed enterprises in Jordan. Also, it is expected from this study to provide recommendations to the decision makers to enhance and activate the role of national Trade Union and engagement in the privatizaton process.

This study will analyze the privatization program in Jordan, privatized companies, the characteristics (Gender, Education….etc). of labour force in the privatized enterprises before and after the privatization, the services provided by the privatized enterprizes from the consumer point of views and the main problems that face labour in the privatized companies in Jordan. It will analyze the social impact of privatization on employment.
