A regional
training course on web computing opened at RSS on July 5, 2005. The
course is held in cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation
Agency (JICA).
A total of sixteen specialists in the field of software development from
Yemen, Palestine, Oman, Algeria, Tunisia, Mauritania, Bahrain, Syria,
Egypt and Morocco participate in this course.
During the course, the participants will be exposed to standard
methodology used in developing systems and creating websites in various
fields on the Internet, in addition to connecting these websites with
other dynamic ones connected with databases to benefit the end-system
development users. The course also includes a workshop in which the
participants implement the knowledge they learnt to develop practical
applications useful for their institutions.
Opening the course, RSS President Prof. Dr. Sa’ad Hijazi welcomed the
participants hoping that the course would achieve the desired objectives
for the benefit of the institutions they represent. He reviewed RSS
role, since its establishment, to develop its activities and
laboratories to go hand- in-hand with the accelerating development in
the field of information technology and communications.
Dr. Hijazi extended his appreciation to the Japanese government
represented in JICA for its continuous support to RSS. The relations
between the two sides go back to the year 1992 with JICA providing RSS
with equipment and dispatching experts, in addition to training the
trainers at RSS. Dr. Hijazi underlined the strong partnership between
the two sides that aims at training the trainers in Jordan and the
region. He added that RSS goal is to provide its accumulated knowledge
and expertise to the participants to help them transfer modern
technology to their institutions.
On his part, JICA Resident Representative in Amman Mr. Hedeo Morikawa
reviewed the technical assistance JICA presents Jordan in the field of
water, education, health and developing industrial capacities. This
assistance also covers the tourism sector, environment protection and
bolstering regional relations between the Arab countries. Mr. Morikawa
noted that not less than 1.250 trainees from Arab countries participated
in these programmes. He lauded the strong relations between RSS and JICA
since 1990 and reviewed the different phases of cooperation between
them.
